Several PhD and Post-doctoral / Research Associate positions in Civil and environmental Engineering / Electronic and Computer Engineering / Mechanical Engineering / Mathematics

Applications are invited for PhD or Post-doctoral / Research Associate positions in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering / Electronic and Computer Engineering / Mechanical Engineering / Mathematics at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). PhD and Postdoc applicants have options to be assigned to one of the three following departments: Civil and Environmental Engineering Department under the supervision of Prof. MS Ghidaoui, Electronic and Computer Engineering Department under the supervision of Prof. R Murch , Department of Mathematics or Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department under the supervision of Prof. X Kun.

Also joint assignment to Civil/ Electronic Engineering or Civil/ Mechanical Engineering/ Math is possible.

Requirements

Requirements for PhD applicants:

  1. Bachelor degree in any field of engineering or applied mathematics or physics
  2. have a strong academic background in mathematics and/or physics (possession of a Master’s degree is not a must)
  3. excel academically with proven record

Requirements for Post-doctoral Fellow / Research Associate: 

  1. have a PhD degree in any engineering field (civil and mechanical engineering are preferred); mathematics or physics; acoustic (Including ocean acoustics).
  2. have strong analytical skills in at least one the following areas: acoustics, fluid mechanics, inverse theory, flow stability, computational fluid mechanics, and/or fluid-structure interaction; signal processing; optimization.

Funding

For PhD students, studentship amounts to HK$ 16,330 per month will be provided with a maximum period of four years. The university also provides medical and dental services to students. For Post-doctoral Fellow / Research Associate, starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. An initial one-year contract will be offered with further employment subject to funding availability and job performance. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
